We went out to dinner the other night and it took a little longer than usual so, Sarah quickly grew tired and bored. Garrett and I took turns walking her to the front of the restaurant to look at the fish. Not live fish in an aquarium. That would be normal. No, these fish were dead and in a deli case for sale. I guess looking at dead fish is more enteraining than sitting at the table watching your parents eat. Anyhoo, after our second visit to see the fish Sarah started playing with the gumballs machines. She stood there turning the knobs this way and that. Each time with a hopeful look in her eyes that the next turn of the knob would yield one of the delicious candies inside. As is our usual routine I asked her to stop. She didn't stop. Instead she reached up for the gumball machine on top and, while flashing me that devilish Sarah smile, she turned the knob. "Clunk and pop!" A gumball was there. Sarah quickly flipped open the little metal door and the gumball came flying out and onto the floor. Before I could stop her she had popped into her mouth. The 3 yr old had triumphed again! I walked her back to the table and informed everyone of what just happened. Daddy had the last word though. He made her spit it out and he cut it in half. So, instead of a large choking hazard he created a smaller choking hazard. She survived, we survived and Momma got a nice buzz off of the margarita. Ole!
